Lightly sand, then use a primer (I prefer Kilz), then paint. Make sure you also paint a clear acrylic polyurethane also, so you can scrub and clean them later.</description>

You can simply sand them down, prime, and paint.
If you can afford to have them reface, then by all means go for it</description>
