How can I get an EVEN looking dark cherry brown color on Maple cabinets?

I had maple cabinets built in the home that we are building. I am totoally devastated in how they came out. They are blotchy. Some parts are extremely dark and some spots are really light. How do you achieve an even looking from the factory look? I have to do something!
